Transfer Cars at D&D Steel.

Couple transfer cars working the high line today. Two blast furnaces going keeps these transfer cars busy.

#2 highline Part 2

Update on #2 highline January 24, 2017

#2 highline Part 1

Been working on #2 highline. Before the highline stopped one car past the rotary dumper. Now it extends to the edge of the layout and has 2 tracks with a crossover. Longer car cut can be loaded and unloaded with having to run back to the yard for more cars.

The highline is two standard Walthers highline combined. Instead of having the legs in the open they will be placed in simulated concrete footers so the occasional hit from a dozer or loader will not damage the steel.

Still, have to finish the footers and the walkways on the highline. and a set of stairs. Then paint and scenery.

12-15-16 10:15am Another day of railfanning the KV&O

We hear the daily hot metal train from DDMS was on its way and they had held the ore train in the siding to clear the main for it. While was waiting sitting on the highline was 2 of the KV&O SD26 units. Both in different paint schemes. The crew was waiting for a MOW crew to get out of the way.

Hightline - Part 2

Built the base from foam board, and glued the siding on.

Test fit on the loading house before gluing.

Setting on the layout.

Building the other side of the load house under the highline. A conveyor belt will be coming out from under the load house and up and over the ore ship channel.

Highline - Part 1

I have a few buildings on shelves that I'm having a hard time finding something to do with, but while looking at some mills on Bing Maps I came across US Steel in Gary .IN. and got an ideal on a use for a Walther Gravel loader but a little kitbashing will have to be done. A transfer car loader.
