Stationary Steam Locomotive boilers. Part 6

Stationary steam boilers are about completed. Still a few parts to get and a few more weeds and other scenery to put down. Not being able to work on it much due to a health issue but those are getting better. Enjoy the pictures and as always. Take Care, Stay Safe, Happy Modeling and God Bless.

Stationary Steam Locomotive boilers. Part 5

After I pretty much got what wanted on their diorama in place. I painted everything a matte black. Then dry brushed that colors I wanted the equipment. Still, have to add weeds stairs to the crane cab and a few odd and end details.

Stationary Steam Locomotive boilers. Part 4

After looking at additional pictures of a stationary steam locomotive, I added onto the base plate to make a larger diorama. The addition will give me room to add a loading crane loaded car track and room for a steam transfer building.

Stationary Steam Locomotive boilers. Part 3

After I got the basic layout of how I wanted the steam locomotives I started working on the exhaust cleaner and stack. Getting the wye shape too time to get right. I also added a coal fill guide between the tenders.

Stationary Steam Locomotive boilers. Part 2

At first, I thought about modeling four locomotives like in the pictures of the four German locomotives but decided on two due to space available on the layout. The next task was to fine locomotives I could use. I ended up using two Tyco 0-8-0 locomotives. I measured the length of track for the locomotive to sit on then decided on how long I wanted the base for the project to be built one. By working off the pictures that Rolf sent to me. I built the front platforms added piping and build a plat for that span across to both locomotives and between the locomotives and tenders, and added the coaling guard between the tenders. Next will be handrails and additional piping.

Stationary Steam Locomotive boilers. Part 1

I first read about stationary steam locomotive in an article in the Sept. 1970 issue of Railroad Magazine about Northwestern Steel & Wire steam operations. On the first page of the article is a picture of CB&Q No. 6317 2-10-4 being used to supply steam to the NWS&W plant. This got me thinking about how I could add the same operation to my layout. Which started the project.

There really wasn't much information about stationary steam locomotives on the net due to if they were used they more than like was inside the industry and out of view from the public. This made the project somewhat hard, and the project ended up getting shelved until I could find more information. While looking at a website I ran across a picture of four German steam locomotives being used as stationary boils, and the project got fired back up. After a few emails with the photograph Rolf Stumpf, he sent me additional pictures of these locomotives and information on the operation. With this information, the project took off.
