Scrap Yard Part 2

Track laid and ballasted. Few cars in place to see what it may look like. Still a ways to go.

Scrap Yard Part 1

Was talking to a friend and got on the subject of Larry's Truck Electric. They scrap and part out locomotives. While on this subject. I went to Bing maps and looked around at Larry's and then looked around at National Railway Equipment. They have a number a facility's throughout the world, but I looked mostly at the ones in the US. This would make for an interesting operation plus it doesn't have to be that big. I decided to start on one beside the diesel shop. I had to install a new curved switch but that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. So far here are the results.

Car Floats part 4

Started the first of 3 car floats. These are being built out of 3/4 MDF step board. Found these at Lowes for $8.00. I came up with a pattern of a car float traced it on foam board and cut it out. I can use the foam board pattern to make my car floats. At first, I thought about building my car floats out of foam board so it would light way but it would also be flimsy. So I when with MDF.

Not really satisfied with the overall look of the area and area itself. it will probably get redone at a later date.

Diesel Shops and Turntable Part 5

Got the ballasting done and the backdrop repainted around the diesel shop. and the ballasting around the roundhouse done. Now for some foliage an detail parts around both places.

Diesel Shops and Turntable Part 3

One thing about modeling is don't be afraid to change thing around. After looking at the turntable and the track arrangement for a week or so I just wasn't satisfied with how it looked. I wanted a roundhouse but didn't have the room. I thought about cutting a corner off but then again I didn't want to do that, so I added a small section to the layout coming out in the aisle. Adding this section left me to get a 3 stall roundhouse back on the layout. I also started on the false front of the diesel shop. I had a Bachmann 2 stall engine house that I had not used and didn't plan on using anywhere at the time.

Diesel Shops and Turntable Part 2

Got some of the old scenery removed, some tracks laid and sanding rack started. Using a Bachmann Sanding rack. I have always like how this kit looked and finally have a spot for it.

Diesel Shops and Turntable Part 1

I had to remove a section of the layout for the doorway to the workshop. In doing this I had to take off my 3 stall roundhouse. Replacing round house I am thinking about a 2 stall engine house as the replacement for it. Also since I didn't need the incline on the layout anymore. I going to add a diesel shop coming off the switch that was going to the incline.

Lift out bridge Part 1

After completing the new room I had to build a new lift out bridge. I had to reuse some of the track the was originally was there. Not satisfied with the track work but the base turned out pretty good.

Workshop / Display Room Part 2

Pretty well got the room completed. Still, have to hang a few shelves on a couple walls but the room turned out better then what I thought it would. Couple other things I need to do is cut the hole out for the Paint booth and add a couple tracks for programing the locomotives.

My girl calls the short doorway the Hobbit door.

Workshop / Display Room Part 1

Well after a few weeks of planning and getting the material together the workshop got started. At first, it was only going to be 9'x12' but once more accurate measurements were taken it ended up being 9'x16". I will say the wife was very understanding. The doorway leading from the layout room to the workshop is only 55" high. I did this because I have a large section of switches and the scenery done on the upper level of the layout that I didn't want to mess with. Turned out better then what I thought it would. I also added a door going outside on a porch.

Ladles

Along with the blast furnace drill vehicle Paul also sent a few ladles that he built. So there will be an article published on building the ladles.

Blast Furnace mobile drill

Had a good friend recently send me a package in the mail. Was amazed when I opened it. This little guy was one of the first things I got out of the package. It is a mobile drill for the blast furnace that he modeled after seeing similar in a video. It started out as a Matchbox vehicle with a lot of modification on it. Thanks, Paul.

Work Train Car (Part 2) Walthers Bunk car

Had this Walther Bunk car for a very long time. Recently dug it out of storage and decided it would make a good addition to the work train. Had a couple step broken off of it so I took an old Bachmann boxcar that I had been using for parts and removed the steps for it and glued on the bunk car. Gave it a coat of primer a then painted it Rust-Oleum orange. Still, have to paint the step and grad irons white. Also waiting on decals for the work train.

Building Mountains Part 2

Did this project with 1 inch pink from that I had in storage. I cut the basic shapes on the first piece. Then used it to trace the other layers. It is stacked 4 pieces high and I used screws to hold the pieces together while the Liquid Nail sent. Once build I used a Dremel and cut off wheel to carve some of the formations in the rock face. Still aways to go but I am pleased with the results so far.

Apologize for the grainy pictures these was taken with a cell phone.

Building Mountains Part 1

Been thinking of what to do with this area for a very long time. Never been really satisfied with it. Decided on replacing the retaining walls with mountains and go from there.

Sylvan Ships Part 4

Got the Ocean Freighter complete. Was a fun project, and was time-consuming.
